When do you need to order your Bar Mitzvah Favor?

It is always best to order your Bar/Bat Mitzvah Favor as early as you can to assure that the item is in stock and if it isn't, there will be enough time for it to be reordered. But the time frame we suggest is the following, about two weeks before you send out your invitations you should choose the item or items you are interested in giving as your Bar/Bat Mitzvah Favor and get all the information concerning those items. Once your invitations come back and you have your numbers, usually around 4-5 weeks before the party you should place your order. It usually takes around 2 weeks for the item to be delivered, but it is always best to give yourself some leeway, you never know what is going to happen. For example a couple of years ago we placed an order with a vendor in the New Orleans area for someone's party. Unfortunately between the time we placed the order and it was produced, Hurricane Katrina hit and the vendor's operation was down for almost three weeks. We then had to scramble to find a different vendor who did the same item. We were able to supply the Bar Mitzvah Favor on time and the customer never knew about our problem, but things happen, so give yourself enough time for the unexpected.

Gifts at the kids cocktail hour, good idea or not?

Most Bar/Bat Mitzvahs nowadays have an area set up for the kids during the cocktail hour to play all kinds of games. A lot of these games you can win prizes or you can design your own dog tag or have you name airbrushed onto a t-shirt or pillow. The kids love these activities and it serves a dual purpose of keeping them occupied and out of the adult’s cocktail hour. The big question is, “Is it a good idea to give out gifts at this time and what usually happens to these gifts?” Since we have been involved in hundreds of Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s over the years, from experience we can tell you at least 50% of the items given out during the cocktail hour never make it home. They either get thrown away at the end of the party or if they were personalized you now have the extra responsibility of making sure they get sent to whoever they belong to. If you are having a personalized item made during the cocktail hour hold on to them until the end of the party and give them out then. The best way of doing this is to have a bag made, some suggestions would be a tote bag or drawstring backpack and have the cocktail hour items put into the bags for the kids to pick up at the end of the party. The kids will appreciate not having to keep track of them during the party, especially the boys who almost always tend to forget them, and if you give them either a tote or backpack they will be thrilled that they are getting another Bar/Bat Mitzvah Favor to take home with them.
Another point about things being given out during the cocktail hour versus what we do, the quality of our items is usually much higher. For example the pillows that are airbrushed during the cocktail hour are nowhere near the same quality as the pillows we sell as Bar/Bat Mitzvah favors. The ones we sell all come with a removable cover that can be washed versus the airbrushed ones that have no cover and unfortunately get dirty and are breeding grounds for germs. But more importantly the pillows given out during the cocktail hour tend to rip and spill thousands of little beads all over the place, where we have never had a single experience of a pillow opening up. Is it cool for the kids to have them airbrushed with their name on them, no question about it, is it practical noting the difference in quality, not even close.
If you think the problem of not picking up items made during the cocktail only relates to the kids, think again. Not to long ago we had a client purchase beautiful frames as a thank you Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor to be used to have pictures taken during the cocktail hour put into them and picked up at the end of the party. The next day she called to tell us how the party went and how everyone loved the items we sold her, but she complained that she had over 20 frames with pictures that were not picked up and she was going to have to send them out. The problem turned out to be where she placed the table with the frames on them, they were not in the direct path of everyone leaving the party so some people never even knew they were there. If you have pictures for your guests to be picked up at the end of a party make sure you place them right at the exit so no one can leave without seeing them on display.

Do you have to keep up with "The Jones" when buying a Bar/Bat Mitzvah Favor?

This is a really simple question to answer and the definite answer is no. There is no right or wrong regarding what you need to spend on a favor. This is a personal decision based on your family and your budget. No one should feel pressure to ever spend more then their budget allows. If you are working with an unlimted budget and want to give the Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor of the year out, go ahead and do it. You probably worked really hard to have an unlimited budget so why not enjoy it. But on the other hand if you are trying to keep the budget down due to financial restraints there is no reason to feel any pressure to keep up with anyone. From experience the kids never judge how good a party is by how expensive the Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor is, the most important thing to them is always how good the DJ or band is and unfortuanately for the adults how much rap music they play. We should all still remember the important part of becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah is the religious part, not how big a party you have or how expensive your party favor is.

Is chocolate popular for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor and will it melt in transit?

We have clients constantly asking whether chocolate is a good favor to give and if it will melt or break in transit. Whether or not it is a good Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor depends upon who you are giving it to. If this is the only favor you are giving out to the kids at a party the answer is no. Your young guests always want to have something to take home with them that won't be gone the next day. So we highly suggest not making this the only party favor for the kids. If you want to give some kind of chocolate out in addition to a bag or t-shirt to the kids, that works perfect. They get to take something home and have a sweet for after the party or the next day. Where chocolate does work perfect is when you are giving it out to your adult guests to say thank you for coming. We recently did a Bar Mitzvah where they gave out chocolate pianos filled with Good and Plenty candy. I happen to be a guest at that party and we had at least ten people come up to us and tell us how beautiful they were and it was almost a shame to eat them. We can have the chocolate made into almost any kind of shape you can imagine, for example we did a lion's head for one party and a Broadway Playbill for another. In most cases we can have your artwork incorporated into the chocolate. So for adults you can't give a better Bar/Bat Mitzvah gift then a custom piece of chocolate.
As for the shipping, when we ship chocolate it is always packed in dry ice or a cooler to prevent melting. Plus it is shipped either one or two air to avoid the normal 5 days it takes UPS to deliver. We have never had any chocolate melt in transit. Breakage is a whole other story, it does happen on occasion that a piece of chocolate will break during shipping. When breakage does occur we overnite replacements so you have them the next day at no additional cost to you. For this reason we always request that you order early so we can schedule delivery so we have the extra time to replace any broken pieces. We have never had a single incident where we did not supply a full order of chocolate because of breakage, we always deliver a full order no matter what happens during shipping. So in conclusion chocolate is a great Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor for the adults and a great add on for the kids and melting or breakage are never a problem mostly because we always handle every problem promptly, professionally and always to our customer's satisfaction.

Who creates the art work for Bar/Bat Mitzvah Favors?

When purchasing a favor you have several options regarding the decorating of the favor you choose. If you have artwork that has been created for you by your decorator or invitation person you can e-mail that artwork to us. We would need an EPS file vector art, this is camera ready art. This type of artwork is needed to insure the best quality imprint possible. If you do not have this type of file but you do have a jpeg or pdf we can have these reviewed to see if the resolution is high enough to use. If not we can have the art converted for you into the appropriate file. We will never allow you to use art that isn't going to give you the best imprint available for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor. If you do not have art and you would like something created to go along with your theme we can assist you with that as well. We will try and get as much information from you regarding your theme so we can come up with the perfect graphic for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor. We always e-mail a proof to you for your approval so you will know exactly what you are getting before your favor goes into production. If you want to keep it simple and you would just like a tagline or initials and date on your favor that isn't a problem. We will ask you for the font you would like the typesetting done in and once again we will have a proof e-mailed to you for your approval.
There are no rights and wrongs about what you imprint on your Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor, it is a matter of personal taste, but regardless of what you pick you can expect a perfect imprint from BarMitzvahFavors.com.

How do we incorporate our theme with a Bar/Bat Mitzvah favor?

This is a question that is asked on just about every order we do and the answer is simple. You give us as much info as you can about the theme and we will come up with a graphic that will flow with that theme. You don't necessarily have to pick an item that goes with your theme the graphic is what will tie it all together. So even if you have a beach theme and you pick a t-shirt vs. a beach bag or a beach towel the graphic we come up with will reflect that theme. The artwork can also be used on cocktail napkins and guest towels to really tie the theme altogether. If you have artwork from your decorator or invitation person that you would like to use on your favor we are happy to use that just let us know. We will need an eps file vector art, if you don't have that format we can have it converted for you. To produce the best quality imprints we need this format. At BarMitzvahFavors.com we specialize in finding just the right favor to match your theme but more importantly we find the right favor to match your budget, so check out our web site or give as a call at 561-750-8683.
