What to give as a Bar/Bat Mitzvah gift?

A reader of our blog posted a comment on what to give as a gift and when to give it. Of course what you give depends on who you are and what your relationship is to whoever is having the Bar/Bat Mitzvah. If you are a classmate or friend the usual gift is a check for around $36.00, which is called double chai or $54.00 which is triple chai and is considered good luck. Of course if this is your best friend you might want to give more or buy them a gift that they will treasure more then a check. Sometimes several friends chip in together to buy a gift, so they can get a higher quality gift then if they were doing it alone. If you are an adult attendee again it depends on what your relationship with the family having the party is and of course what your financial status is. We have seen gifts range anywhere from $100.00 on up, but the important thing to remember is that your real gift is being part of the celebration of a young boy or girl becoming an adult and celebrating their Jewish heritage. As to when you give them the gift, once the party starts we suggest giving it to either a parent or someone at the party who is collecting the gifts as soon as you can. If anyone has any further questions on this topic or any other topic relating to Bar/Bat Mitzvahs please feel free to email us at info@BarMitzvahFavors.com and we will be happy to respond, even if you are not in the market for Bar Mitzvah Favors.
